Class information
- In this class, you will work as a student journalist, covering the events that happen throughout the school year and publishing Northwest High School's official student yearbook, the Viking.
- As a yearbook staffer, you will produce the yearbook, finding the perfect representation of the current school year.
- As a student journalist, you are responsible for:
*creating and maintaining a yearbook theme for the school year
*interviewing sources
*writing stories
*taking photos & writing captions
*fact checking
*creating layouts
*creating videos to enhance yearbook coverage
*selling advertising & book orders
- Deadlines are of the UTMOST importance. We have a publisher who is waiting for us on deadline: this is not like handing in a late assignment. Late work will not be tolerated.
- As a student journalist, you must be proactive. Don't wait for me to tell you what to do: you should take initiative. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure everything is being covered; it is YOUR responsibility to make sure you are aware of ALL deadlines.
- Making sure we have "coverage" (someone taking photos/video of school vents) is incredibly important. If an event happens, and no one is there to cover it, we have no visuals to put into the book.
- Without ad revenue, we cannot print our paper. All staffers are expected to sell advertising to keep our publication solvent.
